What is 3x3 Hustle

Australia’s official 3x3, now in Gippsland.

3x3 Hustle is Australia’s only 3x3 basketball competition framework, endorsed by Basketball Australia and FIBA. It’s a genuine Olympic sport with its own world ranking — the official pathway from your local court all the way to representing Australia. As a licensed 3x3 Hustle association, WBA is bringing a sanctioned Street Hustle tournament to Gippsland this September, plugged straight into that national pathway.

Anyone can play. You don’t need a rep background or a full team of ringers — just three or four mates and a bit of hustle. Open to boys and girls, U10 through U18, at every skill level.

The game in 60 seconds

Simple, fast, relentless.

If you know basketball, you already know 3x3. Same skills, stripped back and sped up — one hoop, half a court, and almost no stoppages. Here’s everything you need to walk on and play.

Three on three

Two teams of three on the court, plus one substitute. Subs come on at any dead ball — just tag your teammate.

One basket, half court

Both teams attack the same hoop. After a change of possession you must clear the ball behind the arc before scoring.

First to 21, or ahead at 10:00

Hit 21 points and you win instantly. Otherwise, whoever leads after ten minutes takes it. Tied? First to 2 in overtime.

12-second shot clock

Half the time of the five-a-side game. No breaks after a score, no quarters, no half-time — just go.

Every basket inside the arc is worth 1 point. Step outside the arc and it’s worth 2. Free throws are 1.

:12 Shot Clock Seconds to get a shot up
21 Instant Win First team to 21 points
10:00 Game Clock Or highest score at the buzzer

Why play

More than a game.

Fast & Frantic

Games are ten minutes of flat-out basketball. More touches, more shots, more action per minute than any other format.

Music & Atmosphere

Non-stop music, prizes and energy courtside. 3x3 is built to be a show as much as a sport.

A Real Ranking

Every sanctioned game builds your personal FIBA 3x3 world ranking — the same system the pros climb.

Olympic Pathway

3x3 has been an Olympic sport since Tokyo 2020. This is the official Australian pathway toward that stage.

Play With Your Mates

Build your own team of three or four. No draft, no tryouts — just grab your crew and enter.

Every Junior, All Levels

From U10 first-timers to U18 comp players, there’s a division for every junior. Beginners are genuinely welcome.

— The 3x3 game
Good to know

Questions, answered.

What exactly is 3x3 basketball?
It’s the half-court, three-a-side version of the game — an official Olympic sport. Two teams of three (plus a sub) attack one hoop. Baskets inside the arc are worth 1 point, outside the arc 2 points, and it’s first to 21 or highest score after ten minutes.
What happens when I register my interest?
Nothing binding — registering interest isn’t a commitment or a payment. It tells us how many teams and which age groups to expect, so we can lock in the divisions and court schedule. Once entry officially opens, we’ll contact everyone who registered with the entry link and full details. Note the form must be completed by someone aged 18 or over — a parent, guardian, coach or team manager.
Do I need experience or a rep background?
No. You don’t need a rep background or a full team of ringers — just three or four mates and a bit of hustle. The tournament is open to boys and girls, U10 through U18, at every skill level. Beginners are genuinely welcome.
How many players do I need?
Three or four in the same age group. Three play on court at a time; the fourth is your substitute. Subs come on at any dead ball — just tag your teammate.
What’s a Hustle Pass and do I really need one?
Every player needs a 3x3 Hustle Pass to compete in any sanctioned event. It’s a one-off national registration — not a WBA fee — that gives you a unique Hustle ID and FIBA 3x3 profile, covers your insurance, and unlocks entry to any 3x3 Hustle event in Australia for the life of the pass. There’s no need to set one up yet — once the event is confirmed, each player sets up their pass at 3x3hustle.com.
How are age groups decided?
Junior divisions run from U10 to U18, grouped by birth year — the same approach as our domestic competitions. Exact divisions will be confirmed once we know team numbers from the registrations of interest, which is exactly why registering early helps.
What should we wear?
Matching jerseys or tops for your team, shorts with no pockets (standard basketball rules), and court shoes. We’ll handle everything else on the day.
Can I enter as an individual?
The tournament is built around team entry — but don’t let that stop you. Register your interest, mention in the message that you’re a solo player, and we’ll do our best to connect you with other individuals in your age group looking to form a team.
Where and when is the tournament?
Wed 30 Sep 2026 at Warragul Leisure Centre, 21 Burke St, Warragul — one big day of junior 3x3, U10 through U18.
