The Course
Level up your coaching.
The Competition Coaching Course is the entry point to Basketball Australia's Competition Coach pathway, delivered locally by Basketball Victoria. It builds the technical and tactical knowledge coaches need in more competitive youth environments — how to plan a season, structure a training session, and develop both individual and team skills across offence and defence. Complete the course and you'll be accredited at Competition Bronze, with a clear pathway to Silver and Gold.
Two parts, one accreditation: the course combines online learning with a six-hour practical. Online training is sent to you after you register — coaches must complete both the online and the practical components to gain the accreditation.
How It Works
Online + practical.
The accreditation has two components. Work through the online modules in your own time, then bring it onto the court at the Warragul practical session.
Online Modules
Self-paced
Sent to you by email after you register. Work through the modules anywhere, anytime, before the practical day.
Six modules of video-led learning recorded across the country
Complete at your own pace, 24/7

What you'll cover.
The Competition level builds the technical and tactical tools to coach in more competitive youth settings. Typical course content includes:
Games Approach to Learning
Teaching the game through game-like situations so players learn by playing, not just drilling.
Man-to-Man Offence
Building team offensive concepts, spacing and movement against man-to-man defence.
Man-to-Man Defence
Team defensive structure, positioning, communication and containment.
Transition Offence & Defence
Coaching the fast break and getting back — winning the transition battle at both ends.
Individual Skills
Developing individual offence and defence within a team framework.
Zone Offence & Defence
Introducing zone concepts — how to set one up and how to attack one.
