Behaviour Management
Upholds the Zero Tolerance Policy for players, coaches and spectators. No abuse, no dissent, no intimidation.
Your role on game night — and an invitation to join the team.
When you arrive at a WBA venue, you'll see an official in a hi-vis vest moving between the courts. That's the Game Day Official (GDO) — a paid, WBA-appointed official who acts as the third official alongside the referees.
The referees look after the rules of the game. The GDO looks after everything around it — behaviour, the Zero Tolerance Policy, spectator conduct, junior referee safety, and the smooth running of the venue.
The GDO is active and courtside for the whole session — not behind a desk. They are there to keep every game safe, fair and respectful for players, coaches, referees and families alike.
Upholds the Zero Tolerance Policy for players, coaches and spectators. No abuse, no dissent, no intimidation.
Monitors the crowd and manages the warning-card process when a spectator's behaviour crosses the line.
Keeps the team bench for players and team officials only — and asks anyone else to step away.
Protects referees wearing the green whistle. Adults raise concerns through the GDO — never directly with a junior ref.
Records incidents, injuries and fill-in players, and submits the official reports after each session.
Briefs scorers, checks scores, manages coach–referee communication and keeps the venue clean and safe.
Players & team officials only.
The team bench is not a place to sit and watch. The designated bench area is reserved for the people who belong there on game night: players and registered team officials — the coach, assistant coach and team manager. It is a working space, and keeping it clear is part of running a safe game.
The GDO has the authority to ask anyone else — parents, family members, friends, siblings or other spectators — to leave the bench area and move to the general spectator seating. If a GDO asks you to step away from the bench, please support them: it keeps players safe and the game running smoothly.
The GDO never overrules a referee's call. Rules decisions stay with the referees — that authority is final.
The GDO does not settle complaints on the night. Concerns go through your club to Association Operations.
The role is dedicated to court supervision and cannot be combined with any other venue duty.
The GDO is on their feet across the whole venue for the full session — visible and approachable.
